WIKI

What is the WIKI?

wiki (sometimes spelled “Wiki“) is a server program that allows users to collaborate in forming the content of a Web site. … The simplest wiki programs allow users to create and edit content. More advanced wikis have a management component that allow a designated person to accept or reject changes.

Springbok Relief staff manage the wiki and upload content that is traceable and contains revision management features as content and information evolves.

Why was the WIKI created?

Our wiki was created so we could upload all our research and supporting evidence in support of Asylum seekers applications. It was established so our Not for Profit could consolidate all the documents, statements, photographs, reports, mainstream and social media information gathered over the past years whilst we have investigated cases of racism, gender persecution, cultural and ethnic oppression.

It has been structured in over 7 main categories, comprise some 47 plus subsections containing over 600 documents be their reports, video, photographs or articles.

It also contains information that shows how the Affirmative Action, Employment Equity and Black Economic Empowerment policies, practises and legislation is negatively impacting the economic sustainability and survivability of minorities in South Africa which is both discriminatory and in contravention of the principles and spirit of the national constitution.

The Department of Immigration’s systems only allow for the upload of some 60 documents. So, as our evidence is so vast, 60 files cannot satisfactorily cover all aspects of the UNHCR criteria with comprehensive evidence. Furthermore, the Department of Immigration refused to access DVDs or USBs full of data over 3GB in size with documents as evidence. In the aforementioned format, it required Case Officers to downloaded and open files. This posed an IT Security risk as the department feared the threat or possibility of file infection and the security risks to its IT systems was significant should a downloaded document contain malware etc.

So, to circumvent this issue, our WIKI requires no downloading as all pages and information is presented in a secure https web browser manner that is referenceable and searchable.

Why is the WIKI not publicly accessable?

The Wiki contains sensitive and confidential information of a private nature obtained from survivors, victims and families who have been persecuted, so making this information publicly available would be a breach of the trust imposed upon Springbok Relief by our members.

Much of the information is so explicit that ‘Viewer discretion’ is strongly advised as it includes images and video that is offensive to sensitive viewers, so as Springbok Relief we wish to avoid causing offence or revealing confidential information other than to those authorised to view the material like Refugee Case Officers and Tribunal Members.

In addition, some information contained within our Wiki has been provided in confidence by Serving Offices within the South African Police and their identity needs to be protected.

Many graphic images of murder, torture, brutality and inhumane treatment is contained within the wiki and we do not want children to be exposed to this accidently.

Each Case Officer and Asylum family is provided their own unique profile and access rights to the wiki in the hope that Case officers and representatives of countries Immigration and Refugee services can access the evidence in a secure and controlled manner.

Lastly, many academics and researchers who wish to remain publicly anonymous have offered their evidence so by publishing their data in this secure Wiki, Springbok Relief makes their invaluable information available to those who need to review it in confidence without exposing the source of some of the papers and evidence.

How and why is the WIKI so secure?

The wiki is structured using industry respected opensource Wiki software. It is maintained by our external IT partner DyDX Software and is hosted upon Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure.

For peace of mind, AWS hosts many large enterprises such as Suncorp Bank, Commonwealth Bank, Netflix, McDonalds as well as many other government organisations such as NASA, FDA, US Department of State and UK Ministry of Justice.

AWS has been awarded PROTECTED Certification by The Australian Cyber Security
Centre (ACSC) – This is currently the highest data security certification in Australia.

Other notable AWS compliance certifications include CSA, PCI DSS Level 1, SOC (1,2,3), ISO 9001, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, IRAP and many others.

Our Wiki is very secure as we employ strict access control policies which ensure no developer has access to production systems unless it is absolutely necessary. Moreover servers are not accessible via public endpoints (Isolated from public internet) and all ports on a network and machine level are locked down by default.

Therefore, all access has to be manually granted by an admin on a network and AWS account level.
